On September 20, 2024, representatives from the Maryland Bosnia and Herzegovina Exchange Council (MBHEC) were warmly welcomed by Kathleen Larkin, Director for the Balkans and Central Europe at the National Security Council, at the White House’s Eisenhower Executive Office Building. This meeting marked a significant step forward in enhancing the involvement of the Bosnian American diaspora in fostering partnership opportunities between the citizens and institutions of the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The MBHEC delegation, consisting of co-founders Dr. Azra Nurkic Kacapor, MSc. Adnan Hadrovic, Dr. Emir Nurkic Kacapor, and MBHEC intern Luca Vujovic, presented an overview of the Council’s mission and initiatives. They shared key insights from their recent engagements in Bosnia and Herzegovina and explored future collaboration, particularly emphasizing the role of Bosnian American young professionals within Maryland’s State Partnership framework.
The discussion highlighted the mutual benefits of sustained U.S.-BiH engagement, focusing on cultural exchange, education, economic development, and security cooperation. Both parties expressed optimism about deepening these ties and agreed on modalities for future collaboration, aiming to further enhance this important partnership.
