MBHEC Brings Maryland to Sarajevo at the U.S. Embassy’s America 250 Celebration

MBHEC Brings Maryland to Sarajevo at the U.S. Embassy’s America 250 Celebration

On July 1, the Maryland–Bosnia and Herzegovina Exchange Council (MBHEC) proudly participated in the U.S. Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s America 250 celebration in Sarajevo, bringing the story of the Maryland–Bosnia and Herzegovina partnership to one of the most significant American civic events held in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The event also provided an excellent opportunity to celebrate more than two decades of cooperation between the State of Maryland and Bosnia and Herzegovina—a partnership built on trust, friendship, public service, education, security cooperation, cultural exchange, and the extraordinary contributions of the Bosnian-American diaspora. Over the years, the Maryland National Guard, universities, public institutions, local governments, businesses, artists, educators, and community leaders have all helped strengthen these ties, creating one of the most successful and enduring state partnerships between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The celebration was a fitting occasion to recognize these achievements while looking ahead to new opportunities for collaboration in the years to come.

At the event, MBHEC presented its work and highlighted the many ways this partnership continues to grow through higher education, youth exchanges, economic development, trade, civil protection and disaster preparedness, diaspora engagement, cultural diplomacy, and policy dialogue.

Throughout the celebration, the MBHEC booth welcomed more than 200 visitors, including diplomats, government officials, members of the international community, students, business leaders, and citizens interested in learning more about the Maryland–Bosnia and Herzegovina partnership. Visitors explored MBHEC’s initiatives, exchanged ideas, discussed future cooperation, and discovered new opportunities to become involved. The strong turnout reflected the growing interest in building lasting connections between Maryland and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We were honored to stand alongside the State of Maryland, the City of Sarajevo, the Jackson School of Global Affairs at Yale University, and the Maryland International Education Consortium, whose participation demonstrated the breadth and strength of this unique partnership.

MBHEC extends its sincere appreciation to Artco Group, our trusted partner and sponsor, whose generous support helped create a vibrant Maryland presence at the Embassy celebration. We also thank Bejtovic Communications, our media partner, for helping share the story of this partnership with audiences far beyond the event itself.

Our sincere thanks also go to the U.S. Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina for organizing an outstanding celebration that brought together representatives of government, diplomacy, academia, business, civil society, and the international community. The event reflected the spirit of friendship and cooperation that has long characterized relations between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As the United States marks 250 years of independence, America 250 is more than a celebration of the nation’s founding. It is a recognition of the democratic values, civic responsibility, innovation, and international partnerships that have shaped America’s journey and continue to inspire cooperation around the world. It was a fitting occasion to celebrate not only the enduring friendship between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also the remarkable success of the Maryland–Bosnia and Herzegovina partnership.

For MBHEC, participating in this historic celebration was both an honor and a reminder that meaningful international relationships are built every day through collaboration between people, institutions, universities, businesses, local communities, and public leaders. We remain committed to expanding opportunities for cooperation in education, economic development, culture, innovation, public service, and civic diplomacy.

This event represents another important milestone in the continued growth of the Maryland–Bosnia and Herzegovina partnership and reaffirms our shared commitment to creating new opportunities for future generations.

Together, we celebrate 250 years of American independence while looking confidently toward the future of the Maryland–Bosnia and Herzegovina partnership—an important bridge for strengthening the enduring relationship between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Built on shared democratic values, mutual respect, trusted relationships, and active people-to-people engagement, this partnership demonstrates how state-level cooperation and citizen diplomacy can make a lasting contribution to the broader friendship between our two countries.
