The Maryland–Bosnia and Herzegovina Exchange Council (MBHEC) extends its warmest and most heartfelt congratulations to Colonel Admir Jusupović on receiving the prestigious U.S. Meritorious Service Medal.
The medal was presented to Colonel Jusupović on September 9, 2026, at the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo by John Ginkel, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in recognition of his distinguished service from 2021 to 2024.
During that period, Colonel Jusupović served as the Bosnia and Herzegovina Liaison Officer to the Maryland National Guard, while also serving as Deputy Defense Attaché of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Washington, D.C. In these roles, he made a significant contribution to strengthening military cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States, as well as the longstanding partnership between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the State of Maryland through the State Partnership Program (SPP).
For MBHEC, his contribution has a special and lasting significance.
During his assignment in the United States, Colonel Jusupović played an important role in building and strengthening relationships between institutions and people in Maryland and Bosnia and Herzegovina. His efforts helped create opportunities for cooperation that extended beyond the military sphere and laid important groundwork for broader civilian engagement.
Those relationships and connections later became an important part of the foundation upon which the Maryland–Bosnia and Herzegovina Exchange Council was established.
Today, MBHEC is building on that foundation by expanding cooperation in education, culture, economic development, youth engagement, civil protection, research, diaspora relations, and people-to-people diplomacy.
The Meritorious Service Medal, awarded by the U.S. National Guard Bureau, is a significant recognition of achievements that go beyond the ordinary responsibilities of military service. It is a fitting acknowledgment of Colonel Jusupović’s professionalism, dedication, and commitment to strengthening the bonds between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States.
He was also previously honored with the Maryland Meritorious Service Medal, further recognizing his important contribution to the Maryland–Bosnia and Herzegovina partnership.
