Now a central element of the United Nations Programme of Outreach on the Srebrenica Genocide, the Flower’s permanent placement at UN Headquarters transforms it from a memorial object into a lasting anchor of Srebrenica’s story within UN’s institutional memory. Honoring the victims of the 1995 genocide, it advances the UN’s commitment to remembrance, education, and prevention. The white petals signify the innocence of the victims, while the green center symbolizes hope and renewal, serving as a reminder of the obligation to uphold truth and protect human dignity so such crimes are neither forgotten nor repeated.

The ceremony was attended by high-level delegations from Bosnia and Herzegovina and other nations.
