The Maryland Bosnia and Herzegovina Exchange Council (MBHEC), co-founded by Mr. Emir Nurkic Kacapor, Ph.D., and Adnan Hadrovic, M.Sc., attended this year’s BiH Diasporic Conference in Boston from May 31 to June 2, 2024. This event aimed to leverage the vast experiences of the Bosnia and Herzegovina diaspora to advance knowledge creation and cultural development, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering significant and lasting community impacts.
The BiH Diasporic Conference brought together members of the Bosnian and Herzegovinian diaspora from the United States and Canada, focusing on building solidarity through multiculturalism, religious diversity, and peace via education.
The conference theme, “Pamet u glavu: Knowledge Creation & Cultural Growth,” sought to create a profound connection among attendees, united by a rich cultural tapestry that included language, art, music, science, humanities, sports, and history.
The Maryland-Bosnia and Herzegovina Exchange Council and the Institute for Development Impact were proud to serve as Sevdah Sponsors of this year’s conference.
The opening ceremony featured an inspiring video message from H.E. Sven Alkalaj, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United States, and introductory remarks by Mr. Goran Mirascic, Ph.D., a Senior Economic Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who traveled from Sarajevo for the event. Both emphasized the crucial role that the Bosnian and Herzegovinian diaspora plays and can continue to play in the progress and prosperity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Keynote speakers included Mr. Tarik Jašarević and Mr. Bill Carter, adding to the conference’s impactful discussions as well.
The conference offered an excellent platform for council representatives to inform attendees about the council’s vital role in enhancing the partnership between Maryland and Bosnia and Herzegovina, accomplished through strategic initiatives focused on promoting cultural understanding, economic growth, educational advancement, healthcare improvement, and security cooperation.
Additionally, it provided an opportunity for council representatives to engage with young professionals and encourage them to join the platform in support of the council’s mission.
