Celebrating 20 years of Maryland – Bosnia & Herzegovina partnership

On November 16, 2023, the Governor of the U.S. State of Maryland, Mr. Wes Moore, hosted a ceremonial reception at his residence in the capital city of Annapolis to commemorate the 20th anniversary of collaboration with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the 30th anniversary of partnership with Estonia under the State Partnership Program. The event, attended by top state officials, military representatives, and delegations from partner states, celebrated the overall contributions and commitment to nurturing and enhancing diplomatic relations. Governor Moore acknowledged the dedication of all parties, emphasizing the significance of the State Partnership Program jubilee. National Guard Commander of Maryland, Maj. Gen. Janeen Brickhead, highlighted achievements in long-standing military cooperation and expressed readiness for further enhancement. General Jerkić expressed gratitude for the continuous support from Maryland’s civilian and military leadership, underlining the crucial role in positioning Bosnia and Herzegovina as a credible partner for EU and NATO membership. The ceremony included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Sarajevo and Annapolis, establishing friendly ties between a city in Bosnia and a city in Maryland. This milestone, alongside successful military collaboration, opens a new chapter in BiH-Maryland relations, with potential for success in various areas such as economy, education, health, science, and tourism. The Bosnian delegation, led by Maj. Gen. Ivica Jerkić, included representatives from the Ministry of Defense, Armed Forces of BiH, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of BiH to the U.S., and members of the Bosnian diaspora (listed below) actively promoting Bosnia and Herzegovina in the U.S. It’s important to note that the State Partnership Program serves as a key tool for U.S. security cooperation, facilitating collaboration in all aspects of international civil and military affairs while fostering inter-state relationship.
