The Maryland Bosnia and Herzegovina Exchange Council (MBHEC) has announced a new partnership with the University of Banja Luka, marking a significant milestone in fostering educational and research collaboration between Maryland and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This new alliance aims to deepen cross-cultural understanding, advance academic innovation, and drive economic growth across the two regions.
In a recent virtual meeting, Professor Dalibor Kesić, Vice-Rector for Human and Material Resources at the University of Banja Luka, affirmed the institution’s unwavering commitment to this transformative initiative. “This partnership aligns with global educational trends and underscores the importance of borderless progress and knowledge-sharing,” said Kesić. His optimism was echoed by Professor Radoslav Gajanin, Rector of the University, who emphasized the far-reaching potential of the collaboration.
The University of Banja Luka joins a distinguished network of Bosnian universities already connected through MBHEC. These institutions are spearheading initiatives such as student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, and educational programming designed to strengthen ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Maryland.
MBHEC’s leadership has collaborated with Yale University students Finn Henry, a political science major, and Mak Nurkic Kacapor, a global affairs major, to outline actionable steps for achieving the partnership’s ambitious goals. These efforts are part of the Maryland-BiH State Partnership Program, which has evolved from focusing on military engagement to a broader emphasis on civilian collaboration.
“The inclusion of the University of Banja Luka represents a significant achievement in our mission to foster impactful educational and research ties,” said Mia Bakal, MBHEC Research Assistant in European Studies. “By creating opportunities for cross-border collaboration, we are investing in a shared future of innovation and mutual growth.”
This partnership is expected to pave the way for a range of initiatives that will not only enrich academic and cultural connections but also contribute to economic and social progress. As MBHEC continues to build bridges between Maryland and Bosnia and Herzegovina, this collaboration underscores the transformative power of education in driving global change.
