MBHEC Hosts Meeting in Washington with Dr. Denis Bećirović and the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Diaspora

Yesterday in Washington, D.C., the Maryland–Bosnia and Herzegovina Exchange Council (MBHEC) convened a meeting with Dr. Denis Bećirović, a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and representatives of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian diaspora.

The conversation focused on the role and still underused potential of the Bosnian diaspora in strengthening ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States, along with practical ways to deepen collaboration between diaspora communities and institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dr. Bećirović highlighted the importance of a global Bosnian diaspora network as a framework for connecting individuals, organizations, and initiatives across countries, and for channeling that collective capacity into projects of shared value for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina benefits greatly from the knowledge, experience, and energy of its diaspora, and that strong, well-organized networks are essential for sustaining meaningful engagement and cooperation with international partners.

The conversation was closely aligned with MBHEC’s focus on strengthening Maryland–Bosnia and Herzegovina ties through practical, people-to-people cooperation.

A defining strength of the meeting was the active engagement of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian diaspora, which MBHEC views as a vital bridge between the two countries and one of the most important long-term resources for strengthening U.S.–Bosnia and Herzegovina relations.

MBHEC remains committed to serving as a platform for dialogue, networking, and concrete initiatives that foster durable bilateral ties, with a continued focus on civil cooperation and meaningful participation of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian community in the United States.
