Sofía Sebastián is a MBHEC’s Senior Policy Advisor with over 15 years of experience across think tanks, academia, and government. She is an expert in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and intra-state violence, bringing both deep knowledge and a creative approach to complex policy challenges. Sofía has worked in fragile and conflict-affected environments and managed projects for international organizations, including the World Bank and the United Nations.
Before joining MBHEC, she helped lead the implementation of the Global Fragility Act at the U.S. Department of State and previously held positions at the London School of Economics, Columbia University, and the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, where she analyzed peacebuilding and conflict prevention strategies in diverse global contexts. Earlier in her career, she served as Political Adviser for the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Sofía holds a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, where she was a Fulbright Scholar, and a Ph.D. in Government from the London School of Economics. She is the author of Post-War Statebuilding and Constitutional Reform: Beyond Dayton in Bosnia. Originally from Spain, she now lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband and two daughters.
